While the United States was in a frenzy gearing up for the Super Bowl on February 2nd, the film industry across the pond were celebrating the best in film at the annual British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards. As expected Sam Mendes' 1917 took home the most awards with seven, followed by Joker, with three. While the awards are primarily to honor the best in British filmmaking, the ceremony also includes Hollywood-produced films as well (The Oscars of the UK, if you will). Interestingly enough, this year's BAFTAs were marred by criticism for its lack of diversity among its nominees; similar to the Oscars controversy for the same reason.
